Hi Tony,

Thanks for your additional points and caution. Of course we must temper this with the truth, and, as you said, there is a clear end to GTD!

I would also say that many of the principles in GTD are rather timeless principles put into a clear communicated central place. Looking at Paul and the Epistles, they were organised and built very systematically. It's that same wisdom and systematic approach that GTD has given me.

Thanks again Tony, appreciate it!

S

Brother, as I said in my previous comment, I appreciated your post and understand your enthusiasm for GTD as a tool for organizing ministry and life tasks. I look forward to future posts. I wish everyone in my church would capture what the Lord had for them in a more systematic way.

Let me also gently counsel caution when it comes to philosophies of this world. GTD is a bottom-up methodology that can be so helpful, but as Christians we have to resist the temptation to sound like we're worshiping it. I understand what you mean when you say GTD "rescued my future" and "GTD has helped people to no end," but of course that's hyperbole. It has really not helped people "to no end." GTD can only help people to a certain point (organizing your stuff), but that point has a very clear end. Likewise, if you treasure Christ as your savior, then He, not GTD, has secured your future. Again, I really do get what you mean ("rescued my future" = I was really on a course for burnout; "to know end" = a whole lot), but I do think language matters and that one can run the risk of belittling the power of the Scriptures when one lauds too highly an earthly philosophy. After all, Jesus, the disciples, and Paul (the most productive missionary in the world) didn't have GTD, and they got lots done! Just a note of perspective amidst all of this enthusiasm. :)

I have a post that touches on some of this:
http://www.biblicalproductivity.org/2009/01/can...

Respectfully,
Tony

GTD has made a huge impact on my efficiency at work. I've yet to apply it to my personal life (and yes, I know it should all be combined), but I'm gonna get started soon. Great article and recommendation, thanks.
